POQUOSON, Va. — A 9-year-old boy who left his wallet containing hundreds of dollars at a Virginia convenience store got it back after he posted a handwritten letter.

The Daily Press () reports a woman returned the wallet and its contents to a 7-Eleven store in Poquoson. http://bit.ly/oApwwJ

The boy, identified only as Charlie, says he left the wallet on the counter while he was getting a drink.

The boy's letter which contained his photo was posted on the store's front door. It said the wallet contained more than $300 the boy had saved, along with gift cards he got for his birthday.

The letter ended with, "I hope whoever has it needed it more than me."

Store manager Marvin Ward declined to give further details on the woman who returned the wallet.

This is a great story. I recently (well, about a year ago) found a bag of money at the drive thru late at night when I was making the deposit in the drop box for my own business. It was a bitter night with tons of snow and ice coming down. I had no cell phone so I had to drive all the way across town to the police station to turn it in. Had to wait there for about an hour that late at night while they tried every number they had to get hold of a bank official to release it to them. I finally had them to go ahead and verify the cash that it matched the deposit ticket in the bag so that I could get home to feed my animals before midnight. There was around $1982 in that deposit. I never received a thank you from either the bank or the business that had dropped the bag in the drive thru. Some days it just doesn't pay to be nice. Not a thank you.

I grew up in Poquoson and my parents still live there, this is one of the reasons they stayed, great area, no crime, 9 year olds walking around with $$$ in their pockets.

What goes around comes around. Reminds me of my own story:
First day of college, I had like $500 to buy books and supplies (didn't have a credit card in those days). I must have been leaning up against a table, but my wallet was pushed out of my back pocket without me knowing.

Someone turned it in, student records called me to pick up the wallet, all the cash was still there!

As an adult, I've returned this favor to others more than 3 times, never once keeping the money.

Great story.

If they where honest, the wallet would not would not have been taken from the counter in the first place.. However, I am glad it has been returned to him.
