SAN DIEGO -- San Diego police say a 16-year-old boy throwing rocks at a sport utility vehicle was struck by a crossbow arrow fired by a passenger.

Police say the shirtless boy and a friend were throwing rocks at a black Toyota RAV4 in the Linda Vista neighborhood Monday afternoon when a passenger fired a crossbow out the window.

The boy was shot in the right side and was taken to a hospital. The San Diego Union-Tribune says his injuries are not life-threatening.

His name wasn't released.

Nobody has been arrested.

Would you agree with letting him get away with it if this was your daughter???

CINCINNATI -- A woman was critically injured over the weekend when a fist-sized rock came through an open car window and struck her in the forehead.

Cincinnati police said at least 10 other cars have been targeted by vandals along Columbia Parkway, but no arrests have been made.

Christa Roenser said she and her friend, Joyce Baresel, caught a taxicab Sunday around 1 a.m. and were headed home when the incident occurred.

"I heard, like, a loud noise, and thought it was just a rock hitting the windshield," Roenser said.

She looked at her friend and discovered it was much worse.

"She had her head down," Roenser said. "Her head was in her hands, and that's when I saw we were both covered in blood."

The 23-year-old Baresel suffered a major skull fracture and brain damage, her aunt said, and she will have permanent nerve damage.

"Our goal is hope that someone out there will come forward and the people who did this will realize practical jokes change someone's life forever," said Joyce Manzo.

Baresel was moved Wednesday from the intensive care unit at University Hospital, but she remains in critical condition.

Looks like the teenagers were throwing rocks FROM AN OVERPASS onto cars below - now what do you say? http://www.kcci.com/r/29037096/detail.html

Where did the article say it was a man that fired the crossbow?

Karma can really hurt!!! Good shooting!

I have NEVER ... you people are sick. Some kid throwing rocks (not dropping concrete blocks off a bridge) at an SUV was shot with an arrow in response. THAT IS NOT AN APPROPRIATE RESPONSE !! You think being murdering a child is an appropriate response to rock throwing? A jury would disagree. They were NOT defending their lives against some rocks being thrown at a car. The rocks couldn't have been that big or they would not have been able to throw them.

Rocks fling out from under truck wheels all the time and hit windshields. If you can't even drive and not 'lose control' when an effing rock hits the side of your car, you should not be driving.

Would you agree with being shot by an arrow if it was your son?

Yes throwing rocks is WRONG, and people have certainly died when others have dropped bricks, blocks, large rocks off of an overpass. That's not what this kid was doing.

You people have lost your minds. OH and while we're at it, you are probably the same asinine people who call the Israeli's cowards and killers for shooting at Palestinians throwing rocks, right? phffft

He is lucky to survive. Maybe it was a wakeup call above for him to smarten up!! At 16 there is NO excuse to be throwing rocks at cars, autos. He had it coming...
09:10 AM on 09/28/2011
Lots of assumptions going on here. How do you know how big the rocks were? The kid was 16 not 4, talk about knowing better. What would have been your reaction if someone was killed? Oh gee, it was just a teenager doing something stupid but he'll get off with a slap on the wrist because he is a minor?

The fact that he was not killed by the crossbow was a blessing but it also got the point across very succintly, pun intended. I think he got exactly what he deserved. Bet he doesn't do that again.

Being stupid is not a crime but the results can be, and were in this case, painful.

regardless of the car moving or not if you throw stuff at people they might throw stuff back. now i would be willing to bet their is some backstory here, regardless he got his

16 years old, and he doesn't know that it's dangerous for the people in the SUV to have rocks thrown at them? What an idiot. But I guess he knows now. I'll bet he was surprised. When he gets out of the hospital, his parents should give him a major kick in the butt!
06:26 AM on 09/23/2011
Yeah kick his butt, because apparently being shot in the side with an arrow isn't enough? LMAO pretty harsh man. No a lot of teens don't know anything, because parents no longer spend time with their kids in the U.S.

If I were a San Diego police officer, finding the shooter wouldn't be high on my prioity list
06:27 AM on 09/23/2011
Because trying to commit the murder of a 16 year old for 'throwing rocks' sounds okay to you? What if that was your own son, or brother?? Kids do stupid things, being killed with an arrow is not a just punishment. He is very lucky to be alive.
08:13 AM on 09/29/2011
If it was my own brother, I'd call him an idiot for throwing rocks off of an overpass. This wasn't a kid, either. This was an older teenager who knew better. He is very lucky to be alive; however, I'm willing to bet he'll think twice before he decides to throw things off of an overpass again.

This article doesn't tell us very many details, such as, was the vehicle moving at the time? How fast was the vehicle moving? How big were these rocks? Was the vehicle parked?

I've read a few news articles about people who have been killed after someone threw a rock onto their vehicles from overpasses of the side of a road. One woman suffered a brick through her windshield as she drove, and she crashed into a bridge pylon, which proved fatal to her.

From this story, though, it sounds like the vehicle was stationary. How long was the boy throwing rocks? Do you open the door and ask him to stop, risking getting hit in the process? Would you like to be hit in the head by a rock?
08:28 AM on 09/14/2011
Are you kidding me?? What difference does it make if the vehicle was moving?? There's at least 2 teenagers throwing rocks at it. Those boys were old enough to know better. I'm glad the one was not seriously hurt but he got what he deserved and that's the risk you take when you commit a crime.

If the vehicle was moving at the time of the attack, then it raises questions as to whether the driver could have easily avoided confrontation and how many rocks were thrown at the vehicle. If someone were driving by and a group of children threw rocks, one of which struck the vehicle as it passed, that is a different situation than if the vehicle were parked in a corner and then pelted with several rocks. It makes a difference how much risk the men were facing and whether they could escape. You should not shoot someone just because they dinged your car; it would be justifiable if the attack were an immediate threat to their health or life.

I would bet this wanabe gangster does not throw another rock for the rest of his life. Too bad the archer was not a better shot and put this lowlife down!!!!

HAHA! I have no sympathy for the kid. He's lucky the driver of the SUV wasn't firing a gun or something.
08:46 AM on 09/02/2011
Sounds like someone was just defending themselves and that the score is settled. Hopefully the person who fired the crossbow won't be charged and maybe the punks throwing rocks learned a valuable life lesson and will not go down the potential road of committing other acts that could have severe consequences.

How many want to bet he never throws rocks at cars again?
02:22 PM on 09/01/2011
Had a kids on my farm...told `em NUMEROUS times...don't scare 'x' horse...He DON'T like it....they did so one day...I drove the kid to the hospital since the horse kicked him about 25 feet...mind you...the horse was one of my sweetest critters...loved being petted and handled and would follow you ALL over...like a big puppy...he just hated being scared from behind...kid got what he deserved...NEVER did that again...bet the kid throwing stones will think twice about that behavior again.

To the passenger who shot the crossbow, I say:

"Hey man, nice shot!"
