WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- A Connecticut man faces several felony charges after being arrested inside a dog pound where his Italian greyhound had spent the weekend.

Police told him he could get Missy back when the West Hartford pound opened for business on Tuesday.

Police say they found Scovish inside the pound just before 6 a.m. on Monday after an alarm went off. Police say Scovish told them his dog had special needs.

Scovish was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, larceny, and attempted larceny. He was being held Tuesday in lieu of $150,000 bond. Missy remains at the pound.

What he did was wrong and he should get some kind of fine but this is ridiculous. There is a child murderer in Hickory NC who is not serving any time at all.
I worked 10 years at a county shelter and there is no way for the kennel workers to release a dog. However an animal control officer could and they have on special circumstances.

I have a whippet and a greyhound and it would literally be torture for them to be in the pound.

Felony charges? Thats stupid, make him pay for any damage and do community service at the pound in his non work hours.

This country sucks.

The guy is absolutely right. I have a 9-year old Iggy (Italian Greyhound) who would be devastated if he cannot spend the night under the covers with us. Italian Greyhounds were bred to be bedwarmers and companion dogs.

My cat would be miserable, too. I spent 4 days in the hospital in June, and now he tries to prevent me from going out the door.(Hey, maybe my Furrball thinks he's an Italian Greyhound! He certantly doesn't think he's a cat!) I probably would have tried what this guy did, too.

WTF!? Give the damned dog back already - charge him the usual fees and such with a fine appropriate for hardship B&E - not like he was stealing a crappy Ming vase or something that had any sentimental value to anyone else - and stop spending my tax dollars on shat like this! Special need or not Greyhounds have gone through enough hardship already being exploited for racing - what Imbeciles! Key Stone Coppers. Fricken murderer's and rapists out there and THIS is what they're up to? - Idiots! May as well of run over someone's Grandmother!

Total violation of the Eighth Amendment. And these government clowns probably pocketed the money, too.

Why was the dog in the pound?
03:16 PM on 09/06/2011
The "special need" was that he was too impatient to get his dog during regular business hours. Idiot!!!

$150,000 bail? For breaking into a dog pound? I thought there was something called the eighth Amendment.

"Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."

I find $150,000 a bit excessive in this case.

Someone has to go to the pound over the weekend and on holidays to feed, water and walk them. There was no reason not to let him have his dog, special needs or not. This is the way they make extra money, kennels do the same thing..will not let you have your pet back until they are officially back in business...again, even tho they do go in and take care of the animals. I wouldn't want my pet spending the weekend and more at a pound.

If in fact the dog had special needs then he should have been allowed to come get the dog. They were able to show up for the alarm so someone could have let him come in would have taken 5 minutes and he would have paid the pound fees and been gone and the dog safe. beuracracy at its finest.....yes my spelling and grammar suck online.

So whenever anyone with a pet at the shelter wants to fetch it the employees should just get up from their family dinner, leave a doctors office, skip their sisters wedding and perhaps the birth of their first child all because some looney tunes is so lacking in self discipline and respect for others can't wait for the opening hour? Fudge that!

Interesting 2 know the special need. In long run, would be cheaper to have let him get his dog instead of arrest, trial, etc.
