Girl Accidentally Hangs Herself At Haunted House (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 11/02/11 12:52 PM ET Updated: 11/02/11 12:52 PM ET

A 17-year-old girl was found hanging by a noose inside a haunted house Thursday night, FOX 2 Now Saint Louis reported.

Patrons of the halloween attraction, Creepyworld, may have even walked past her, believing she was a "scary prop."

A haunted house coworker found the girl unconscious, and she was rushed to the hospital.

While authorities continue to investigate into what happened, KSDK reports that the girl remains in critical condition.

Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Jefferson County sheriff's office told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the girl was an actress who works with the company, and that the noose was usually used as a prop for visual effect.

"How she wound up in there is still under investigation," Arnhart told the paper. "Right now, it looks like an unfortunate accident."

Although the girl's name was not released, reports say that she is from Fenton, Missouri.

At 17 she's just a baby with a whole lifetime ahead of her. God, I hope she's ok. The things we do when we're young. Looking back, I don't know how I made it to 20!

Props like that are just not safe. Never use nooses. People hang themselves accidentally quite often when they play around with stuff like that. I really hope the girl makes a full recovery.

I am quite confused on how you "accidentally" hang yourself. Climbing a tree like someone mentioned before is one thing but to be in a haunted house and end up hanging yourself is suspicious. Like what was wrong with it in the first place? Why did she have to probably get on a chair and put her neck through it and fall? It all seems very fishy to me. However, it does not take away from the sadness of the story. I am deeply sorry for her family and for the girl herself and I pray she will recover.

this exact same thing happened in my town a few years ago. A 17 year old employee accidently hung himself and people thought he was part of the set up. It was so tragic and unnecessary. I hope this girl lives and has no brain damage. Our young man died.

There is simply NO REASON for a real hangman's noose to be made. NONE!

When I was first taught how to make one, I was told they were illegal. However true, they probably should be. In any event, they are inherently dangerous.

Why have a real hangman's noose, suspended from something that could support any significant weight whatsoever?

Unless the girl did this on her own, they should definitely be sued!!

That same Bible tells you to honor commandments, one in particular which forbids killing!

More and more, the monotheists fail to seem like the grownups in the room.

That's a good point. It should be easy enough to tie a knot that looks like a hangman's noose but doesn't act like one, doesn't tighten under weight.

See, this is why this satanic holiday should not be celebrated! When you play the devil's games, your going to get played! It's time that bum Obama and Congress finally did som good and finally outlaw this satanic holiday once and for all! It's time for everybody to turn away from this evil and repent of your sins! Then young girls will no longer have to die while performing satanic rituals! Exodus 22:18 "Suffer not a witch to live!" That means that the Bible quite plainly tells us that we are to kill anyone who is a witch!

Soooo, I'm confused. How do they know she accidentally hanged herself if "how she wound up in there is still under investigation."?

I hate haunted houses! The one time I took my young children to one stated it was " Kid Friendly."

We walked in and the first thing they did was grabbed our ankles with a chainsaw buzz going.

From there, it was all downhill. How anyone can pay money to be scarred is being on me.

With that being said, I'm thinking of this young lady and her family...what a freak accident and
I sincerely hope that she survives.

I'm probably way off here but I suspect some kind of foul play. I mean how exactly does one "accidentally" hang themselves?

Oops! I accidentally slipped this noose around my neck. Oops! I accidentally kicked over the chair I was standing on. Something doesn't sound right.

It's not as difficult as you might imagine. A friend of mine in high school was found having accidentally hung himself. He'd tied a rope around his waist to scale a tree, fell, and was found with the rope pulled tight around his chest. He wasn't able to dislodge the rope before he passed out and died. Tragic, and a real loss for those who had the privilege of knowing him.

That is one dedicated employee. They were all out of ghosts, so she took it upon herself to get some new ones.
