Casey Anthony 'Assassination Attempt': Lawyer Tells HuffPost 'None Of It Is True'

You may want to consider donning a pair of quality hip waders before delving into the latest Casey Anthony article in the National Enquirer, according to her lawyer.

"None of it is true," Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, told The Huffington Post.

The article in question, "Casey Anthony Survives Assassination Attempt," appears in the tabloid's latest issue. The Enquirer reports that someone found 25-year-old Anthony's secret hideout in Florida and put on her door a threatening note that read, "I know where you are, I'm coming to put a bullet through your brain."

On July 5 of this year, a jury of seven women and five men acquitted Anthony of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. The little girl's remains were found in December 2008 near the family home, some six months after she was last seen. During the trial, Baez said Caylee had drowned in the family swimming pool. That revelation stood in direct contrast to previous statements Anthony had given police, saying her daughter had been kidnapped.

In August, Judge Belvin Perry ordered Anthony, who was living in another state at the time, to return to Florida to serve a year's probation on charges stemming from a check fraud conviction.

According to the Daily Mail, the Enquirer cites an unnamed source to report that the death threat Anthony received "set off a complete panic," prompting bodyguards to transport her to another safe house. Decoy vehicles, like those used during her trial, were reportedly used.

"The fact she is still hidden and still alive is testimony to just how good her team of bodyguards are. They're the best, but it was a very close call," the unnamed source told the Enquirer, according to the Mail.

The story fails to mention when the alleged assassination attempt occurred.

There is no denying that Anthony, whom Gretl Plessinger of the Florida Department of Corrections called "one of the most hated women in America," has received death threats in the past. "Because of the death threats against her ... we will not be disclosing the location or anything that will lead to the discovery of her location," Plessinger said during an August press conference.

But no one who spoke to The Huffington Post has heard anything about any "assassination attempt."

Plessinger has since left her job at the corrections department, but agency spokeswoman Jo Ellyn Rack told HuffPost that the probation department is "not aware of any such [assassination] attempt."

Jeff Williamson, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Office -- the agency that investigated Casey Anthony -- said his office is also unaware of any attempts on her life. "We know nothing about it," Williamson said, adding that not even his office is privy to Anthony's current whereabouts.

The Enquirer did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Huffington Post.

According to her lawyer, Anthony remains in a safe location "somewhere in the state of Florida."

Meanwhile, the parent company of the Enquirer, American Media Inc., is awaiting a judge's decision on a motion it recently filed to dismiss a defamation suit by Roy Kronk. A former Orange County meter reader, Kronk was the man who discovered Caylee's skeletal remains in 2008. He is seeking $15 million for allegations he claims the tabloid made about him. No word yet on when the judge will rule on the motion.

I miss Casey Anthony and all the TV coverage. I use to enjoy drinking a shot every time Nancy Grace would say "Tot Mom" or "Bombshell Tonight".

She shouldn't be surprised she got a death threat because she has committed a lot of crimes
06:39 PM on 11/20/2011
The sad part of that is someone would get put in jail for murdering her. So not worth it.

What a sad day it is when the criminals can get their lawyers to trick the jury. They hold back vital information and make accusations of others which they know is false like they did to her Dad. That should not be allowed. The judge could have stopped a lot of this. Casey Anthony is a spoiled tramp who is guilty of homicide and gets to walk away as an innocent little girl who will need the tax payers money to protect her for the rest of her life. What a waste of time and money. The prosecution made a huge error by dropping all of the homicide charges. With all of the false information given to the Jury and holding back the truth as the defense did, the Jury had no choice.

Jose said it wasnt true, I wonder if Casey needed a few bucks and made it up herself. Times are hard, and she has to make a living somewhere to pay off the state, county and everyone else. I bet she is laughing all the way to the bank.

Just curious, who's paying for the Bodyguards? If it's tax dollars someone should raise a stink in that state! Enough time and money has been wasted on this woman!
09:51 PM on 11/18/2011
so the jury believed her or that there was not enough evidence?

Both too bad about the Double Jepordy Law's i'd love to see her tried aginst with a difference jury and maybe try the case in the UK where the media coverage on the case was summed up in a minute news story only one time in the whole case so then i'm sure she would be found guilty i believed there was more than enough evidence to convict her but we had some stupid jurors and maybe a Bias jury
03:08 PM on 11/20/2011
thats why they put the law against being tried twice, it was to protect people from being tried over and over again.

i dont know the case but they said the prosecution didnt do a good job of proving her guilt and it was mostly going on conspiracy, people will be judged in next life as well
06:12 PM on 11/20/2011
There was enough evidence... it's just that the jury had their hands tied and had to declare death or not.
08:37 PM on 11/21/2011
what evidence did they have? there is also the sentimental factor of having to send a young woman to jail and that they have to live with that played a role

What rock have you been living under? Do you really think the justice system is "fair" or "effective"? You need two things in this country: money and connections, and they go hand in hand. This kind of thing happens everyday (murderers getting set free or the wrong people being charged for a crime). It's not their job to prove you guilty as they say, it's YOUR job to prove you're innocent. In this case, it was the opposite, but the prosecution did such a poor job in proving her guilt..they were so sure they had it made they didn't try to focus on the most obvious points that showed she was guilty..they were all over the place, focusing on forensics and maggots, that what they should've done was remind the jurors of what the real "maggot" was doing during the days after she supposedly discovered her child "drowned in the pool"!!! I couldn't even eat much less go out to clubs, get tattoos (expressing how beautiful life was!!!) entering "hot body" contests...sure nobody grieves the same, but this girl has no heart...she was celebrating!! There was no grief in her evil heart..she was living it up!

***The comment was directed to the guy in picture 3 who was saying he couldn't believe she had been found not guilty, etc, etc...###

You're right everybody grieves difference but i am very sure if even the most jaded and non-emotional person if there 2 year old baby girl drowns in the pool wouldn't have acted the way she did i know i would be beside myself with greif and bawling like a baby & my wife would end up in the looney bin and if how you act after someone dies could convict she would've been found Guilty within seconds of the jury taking a vote
11:50 AM on 11/30/2011

Had she been found innocent, there would be no hate.
She was found not guilty due to not enough physical evidence ignoring Massive circumstatial evidence.

But I would not waste my time on the same rag that supposedly told the Whole story for George Anthony's Supposed girlfriend.

By Law Innocent & Not Guilty are extacly the same

Assassination is killing someone important.

So that would have been a murder.

Sorry, she's not important and found innocent. So the lynch mobs better stay their hand as they could end up being executed for kill a innocent.
