BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Police in Bellingham, Wash., say a 10-year-old boy defended his mother from an attacker by shooting him in the face with a BB rifle as many as four times.

Paul R. Newman, the man accused of the attack, rents a room in the woman's home and came home drunk and angry Tuesday morning. Police say he kicked in a bedroom door and started choking the woman, according to Associated Press.

Officers say the boy hit the attacker with a board and then shot him in the face with the pump-action BB rifle as he grappled with the woman.

The woman and boy were able to flee to a neighbor's home and call for help.

Newman was treated at a hospital and arrested for investigation of assault and making death threats.

The victim, who sustained non-life threatening injuries, was taken to an area hospital for treatment, according to KOMOnews.com.

Doesn't that young man realize how dangerous guns are? I hope police press charges against this young libertarian terrorist. He probably likes Ron Paul too

Exactly. The sad thing is... there are some people (most likely in my state) who are actually thinking along those lines.

Washington state has some of the most liberal landlord/tenant laws in the country. Should only take the woman about 2-3 months to evict him. Due process and all. Good news is they have lots of empty tents arount the country in the OWS movement as the protesters go home every night to sleep in their parents' homes, so the woman and her son will hae plenty of places to sleep.

I don't understand why we are condoning gun violence in any form...why did he not call 911...it is quite possible that the Police might have arrived before his mother's demise !! (Sarcasm) It is apparent to me that this young man knows right from wrong and knows where his responsibilities lay....

CONGRATULATIONS to the boy...and his parents !!!!~

Ok lets say you were being choked how long do you think it would take for you to die while someone else just sat there waiting for help? "oh its ok ill just sit here& do nothing to help my mom because i called for help. Im perfectly ok w/watching my mom being killed" Would you like that to be included in your eulogy? Give me a break its not a form of gun violence when you are defending yourselves

Maybe you should read the entire comment before starting your rant. The first part was even labeled "Sarcasm."

Read the entire comment, slowly. Think about it, then apologize.

Followed by another apology. I have no idea why my apology would not have been approved. Thank you to whoever didnt allow it to get posted at Huffington Post

love this kid, finally a boy growing up with qualities a man should have. protecting his loved ones, not doing flower arrangements and watching glee.

At that age I had a single barrel break open 16ga shotgun, I wouldn't have been able to shoot in him the face 4 times rapidly to get him to go away. The again, ONCE would have been enough that the only worry would have been cleaning the carpet.

Pity he didn't have a .22 like my sons.
