Obama Thanksgiving Speech Didn't Mention God

First Posted: 11/25/11 12:01 PM ET Updated: 11/25/11 01:01 PM ET

President Obama drew heat from critics for who he didn't thank during his Thanksgiving speech.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that the president didn't mention God in his address, and that's not sitting well with some conservative pundits, as seen in the video above.

I think those conservatives must have forgotten that this is the United States-- oh wait.

The United States was built on religious freedom.

Religion was rooted in "Thanksgiving" as the "Last Supper for Indians with Standish unless calling a Spade a Spade... JUDAS!

There's nothing Holy about breaking bread with someone that welcomes, feeds, provides Agriculture* Medicinal* Social Sciences to you and your kindred while plotting mass murder against those who opened-armed you.

He's your president not your minister people. Try going to church.

The reason for all the heat is this:

When running for election, Obama swore he believed in God. Even showed us the church he always went to. Our people elected him based upon everything he portrayed about himself. He never said "Well, I don't believe in God myself, so don't expect me to acknowledge Him if you put me in the white house." Thanksgiving is a national holiday proclaimed by the father of our country, George Washington in 1789. Both Houses of Congress , by joint committee, requested him to "recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, . . ." Every year for the last two hundred and twenty two (222) years, our elected presidents have all given public thanks to God in accordance with that very first ever Presidential Proclamation. For president Obama to have decided to disabide the Presidential Proclamation which law, tradition, and the very heart & soul of America has honored for over 222 years is an abomination, and a veritable slap in the face of the America which we all grew up in.

I wonder if he would have ever been elected in the first place if he would have plainly told us ahead of time that he would not be placing his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance, nor even thanking God on Thanksgiving. . .

You didn't vote for President Obama so go cry your Religious River to Oprah.

Has America ended to exist?
If if Obama mention your God, Would that end Washington gridlock?
Would jobs be created for all Americans?
The mention of God, will it cure the Financial Crisis in America?
The lack of mentioning of God, does it stop you personally from continued belief?

There are plenty of other famous George Washington acts you failed to "MENTION"
in your Google search that had to do with seeking away to usurp the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania law declaring freedom to slaves that reside within Commonwealth for a contiguous period of time. Your RELIGIOUS HERO asked the U.S. Attorneys General to find away to allowing him to keep his slaves, and Washington used a loop-hole by placing his slaves in transit to break the continuation for at least 1 day rotating slaves 3 miles away into New Jersey and Mt. Vernon.

The "Congress" you adore were racist slave owners and mostly Anti-Abolitionist,
so F them too along with Washington as they all were a bunch of "TERRORIST" that took up arms against a recognised government in an act of insurection killing their English breathern.

Ask an Native American how they feel about Thanksgiving or better yet,
since you like ro cry... ask about THE TRAIL OF TEARS!

KEEP RELIGION OUT OF MY GOVERNMENT!!!

Th4e answer to the paragraphs 2 to 6 is YESSSSS !

First of all, it is not your government. . . it is all of ours. Second of all, there's no need to yell. . . you can't intimidate anybody on here with all your chest-pounding. Third of all, you know almost nothing about me. . . not whether I voted for Obama, nor that George Washington is my "religious hero", nor that I "adore" the Congress of 1789. Fourth of all, I and most others take offense to your filthy language when you say "F them", or "F" anyone else. You should learn to behave yourself in public.

So let's get the facts straight. In his written proclamation he mentioned God just not in his YouTube Thanksgiving speech. Next President Bush did NOT mention God in one of his thanksgiving addresses and President Clinton did NOT mention God in 4 out of his eight thanksgiving addresses. So people need to calm down about this NONE STORY.

This headline is misleading. Obama DID mention God in his written Thanksgiving speech. There should be more thought and integrity put into headlines. Not just sensationalism. Also, judging from the Christian church Obama attended in Chicago, much more biblical straight talk was preached there than in most other mainline Christian churches!

I though God was banded from schools. So what is the problem? If he had, there would still be complaints! I don't need Obama to thank God for me. I do that myself. Some people need to get a life.
09:33 PM on 11/28/2011
Uhm, since when did Thanksgiving become a religious holiday?
01:16 AM on 11/29/2011
It always was. . . inasmuch as it was intended and Presidentially proclaimed as a day to stop everything and thank God for the blesings our country has received.

Did you do that? Did you worship at the church of your choice? Then what's your problem?
06:19 PM on 11/28/2011
Why is this the end of the world? It was most likely a mistake, not an anti God message. Please get a life and use it to spiritually examine your own lives and motives. Stop judging and throwing stones at the PRESIDENT.

From a Christian Obama supporter.

What happened to separation of church and state? And why is Obama under any obligation to thank God? This is a democracy, not a theocracy.
01:43 AM on 11/29/2011
Separation of church and state does not mean God-less nor does it mean anti-God. It means that church and state should each tolerate & accomodate the other without dominating. The United States of America is not ruled by any church, and neither acknowledging God's existence nor giving thanks to Him equals a conjoining of church and state. Our laws and social norms have always been based on morals consistant with several religions which believe in, and are thankful for, God. This country has never been God-less or atheist, but instead tolerant of all persons regardless of their religious views. In fact, it seems that the atheists are some of the more intolerant ones. If this country were founded on atheist, materialist, and relativist values, it would surely not be the beautiful country we all know and love today.

It's Blasphemy to say a Christian God_less. You better watch yourself, you can't take away what God has given Obama. The Lord gave his only begotten son so Obama can be Christian and you don't acknowledge it. Now who's the God-less here.

He's not our pastor or priest, he's our president.

He didn't need to mention God because He already helped the Pilgrims wipe-out the Indians.
