$254 Million Powerball Jackpot: Three Asset Managers Step Forward As Winners

First Posted: 11/28/11 04:10 PM ET Updated: 11/29/11 02:55 PM ET

ROCKY HILL, Conn. -- Three asset managers from Connecticut's affluent New York suburbs claimed a $254 million Powerball jackpot on Monday off a $1 ticket.

Greg Skidmore, Brandon Lacoff and Tim Davidson came forward as trustees for The Putnam Avenue Family Trust, which they formed after Davidson bought the winning ticket at a Stamford gas station. At least two of them live in Greenwich, one of America's wealthiest towns.

They will take the after-tax lump sum of nearly $104 million in cash. They say a significant portion will go to charity.

Davidson bought the $1 quick pick ticket for the Nov. 2 drawing at the Shippan Point BP gas station in Stamford. It was the only ticket he bought. The winning numbers were 12-14-34-39-46, Powerball 36.

The jackpot was the largest ever won in Connecticut and the 12th biggest in Powerball history.

The three men work at a small, startup asset management firm called Belpointe LLC in Greenwich. They appeared with their lawyer at a news conference and didn't say much.

"It feels good," Skidmore said.

Lottery officials had used billboards across the state to urge the ticket holder to come forward as the weeks went by without a winner.

Ranjit Singh, the gas station manager, said lottery officials called the station at about 10:30 a.m. Monday to announce that the winning ticket had been sold there. The station receives $100,000 for selling the winning ticket.

Singh said he didn't know the winners and doesn't remember selling the winning ticket.

"We're really happy," Singh said. "Christmas is a little early."

Something just does NOT pass the smell test! I think they are NOT the winners, but the winner is one person who is wealthy and does not want the publicity. remember you heard it here first!

2nd posting it's rare that some in inner cities win or near depleted areas, they put these winning numbers in thriving neighborhoods. I saw a story where a woman purchased a scratch off ticket and won a million dollars and went to the same store days later and won another million dollar ticket and another one. HMMMMM!!!! can you say setup. I dont believe that they are being fair in how they distribute these tickets or numbers. I don't believe that the LOTTERY is a fair system but a rigged system and some people will say you cant help what a computer picks or prints out but I still find that ODD and to add to that the computer does a a programmer ; ) Something is fishy about the whole lottery system make those of the lowerclass buy into their hopes by purchasing many tickets and then the winners are already living well off and mostly of caucasian decent. Not hating, just realizing the unfairness that I see happening.

Although, I am not against these handsome men winning, congrats to you all. But I have seriously looked into the lottery in different states over the years and I have come to the conclusion that the Lottery is a RIGGED system. Yes I said it is RIGGED, no I am not hating. I do agree that you have to play to win. But what I have notice over the years is that most winning numbers are in greater surban areas or rural farming areas where mostly those are of the caucasian populations. No I am not racist

NO YOU GOT A POINT. IS TRUE. MOST OF THE PEOPLE THAT WIN ARE FROM THOSE AREAS THAT YOU MENTION. ALWAYS WHITE PEOPLE.. AND BELIEVE ME MINORITIES DO PLAY THE GAME TO.. HAVE YOU EVER SEE A BLACK --HISPANIC PERSON WIN IT ? I HAVEN'T . IS ALWAYS A WHITE PERSON.

Hey! Devildog, hope all is well, it's very rare that you get a person of color win the lottery they have won but not like the big time payouts such as this. It's very rare. I am just beginning to think that the lottery is not equal opportunity. I mentioned in a comment before that it was a white woman who played a scratch off ticket in her area and she won a million dollar ticket, within the same week she won two more million dollar tickets, scratching my head, how do they evenly distribute these tickets and numbers to make it a fair chance for all and not just for some. I am all for people winning but make it fair.

I’m very happy for them. I could care less if these three men were already well off. They won, congratulations. If I’m ever as lucky as these guys and hit the lottery, I’d build a state of the art Little League field right here in Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn! And of course, give some to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America!

Herewith is the best advice these PowerBallers will ever need to cope with, not only the windfall of mi
llions and millions, but the impending crush of humanity a nanosecond behind:
"I've NEVER seen a hearse pullin' a U-Haul...!"

Imagine if the Lotto was $1 million max to each winner..
= 254 Millionaires with about $650,000 net After Taxes
In Canada? It's tax free!

Me thinks the Entire Lotto System has to be changed..

A socialistic lottery system? I understand where you're coming from, but that isn't the way it works here in the good USA.
