Girls Getting Bikini Waxes, Manicures, Blowouts As Tween Beauty Market Booms (VIDEO)

How young it too young for a manicure? For a blowout? For a bikini wax?

Apparently there are no limits, with 1-year-olds getting manicures and 11-year-olds getting their hair down there waxed.

Andrea Canning of ABC's "Good Morning America" took a look at the big steps being taken by little girls to be pretty -- and luckily she's just about as freaked out as we were.

If we must, we can deal with little girls getting blowouts, as it's not a far leap from little girls getting their hair cut and dried. We can maybe understand the manicures for tweens, only since nail polish is pretty harmless.

But trying to justify plucking and waxing for the elementary school set, a la "Toddlers & Tiaras"? "It's just part of hygiene!" is not an excuse. (Neither is the fact that they might be wearing these crotchless panties later).

Another downside to the whole tween spa boom not noted in the segment, aside from saddling our girls with crippling insecurities about their appearance, is encouraging kids to spend. Not every family can afford a weekly mani-pedi or twice-weekly blowouts -- nor might these girls, once they grow up and leave the house, find themselves with the means to maintain their tween beauty routines.

What do you think: should elementary and middle school-age girls be getting pampered in the salon?

I think it is too much, mothers should not be doing this to their daughters. That should be the last thing on an 11 rear olds mind.

Im a mom of a 3 year old and when i go for my mani/pedi she sits at the salon and gets her nails painted and they normally paint some kind of design like polka dots or something. She loves it, it's $5, and it's our "girl time" away from dad. I don't see anything wrong with it, its the equivalent of me painting our nails at home (which I do between appointments) She only gets kidfriendly colors. If she's an early bloomer like me- I "started" at 11 I won't be against taking her getting a bikini wax, either. How embarrassed would she be with hair sticking out of her age appropriate one piece suit? Its just about maintenance. Period. My 52 year old mother has never been waxed and thought it odd when i started going at 15 so maybe it's just an age thing as I'm 27 and its always been part of my beauty regimen

Im pretty sure you can find a swimsuit that covers up that area. I was an early bloomer not to mention I am hairy(tmi). but I never had a problem with my hair popping out.

In the spirit of letting it all hang out (pun intended) at 13 my pubic hairs were peeking out of my boy short bottoms so again I'm not opposed to this. I'm Puerto Rican and Black and have thick, coarse hair. Couple that with my Black and Indian, bushy-eyebrowed husband and I'm sure our girls will be just as embarrassed of the hairy, legs, underarms, and private area I had that my mother wouldn't allow me to shave til I was practically 15. Will I be calling the spa making an unnecessary appointment the second they hit puberty? No. But if they bring it up, I won't hesitate to address it
