Cat Rides Under Car Hood, Survives 200 Mile Journey In Ohio (VIDEO)

12/22/11 10:47 AM ET   AP

MEDINA, Ohio -- A cat has survived a four-hour, 200-mile ride under the hood of a car traveling through Ohio.

The cat was taken to an animal hospital in nearby Lodi (LOH'-dy) where Dr. Linda Randall said he was going to be fine.

Randall is calling him "Eclipse" because that was the model of the car. The SPCA is trying to find the feline's owner.

Wow, 200 miles is a long trip for people sitting comfortably inside. I imagine every minute seemed like an eternity for that poor thing.

Isn't that something ... I love cats and I know Lodi, Ohio where the cat is being treated. Some of my relatives lived on Medina Street in that town for many years.

I had a cat that traveled from Greensboro, N.C. to Atlanta, GA under the hood of my suburban, several year ago. Me and two other gentlemen went down to resque a wrecked T-28 War bird at a North Atlanta airport, While there I notice a cat on the ground by my car, It looked like my cat and it was. Asside from some burn't paws the cat was fine. Footnote, upon returning the cat back to Greensboro I only saw it once after that, he ran away, found another home.

ya know, i think the the old cat-under-the-hood is a common occurance. a cat we had years ago, apparently used to go under the hood of our car, to get next to the warm engine, i assume. one day i started the car, and heard an awful screaming meow and the cat bolted away. a good chunk of bloody fur under the hood and a permanently bent tail on our old pet, but he was okay.

We were chasing a stray cat one time. It had ran toward our car an disappeared. We couldn't fugure out where it had gone. Then, we got in the car, drove for about 10 - 15 minutes to a gas station, bought gas, got a car wash, and then another 5 minute drive home. Once home, I decided to physically look under the car. There the cat was shaking like the dickens perched on top of the real wheel axel.

In 2007, I was driving to work when I heard a faint sound coming from my engine. I stopped the car and heard nothing. I continued on my commute....traffic, railroad tracks and turns...Later in the day I was leaving for lunch and heard a very low meow. I found a tiny, very small kitten who was very dirty, but not one mark on her. She was so young and tiny that I had to feed her cat's milk in a bottle from the vet. I named her Angel .....

Poor little cat. He's lucky to be alive. A cat can get hurt really bad because they like to climb up on the motor of cars where it's warm. If you know there is a cat in your neighborhood just click your starter once before you crank it all the way. It gives a cat a chance to get out of the way of the fan and get out from under your car.

Yet another reason my three cats all live indoors. They're all declawed/vaccinated/spayed/neutered and none of them cares for the outdoors. I have harnesses and leashes for them, but they all put up a fight when I tried to take them out. That only happened once. Never again. Indoors only. Anyone need cat harnesses and leashes??? Used once (well, almost once!). They have plenty to do inside and none of them try to sneak out the door. When the door opens, they all move back, w-a-a-a-y back!!!!

Sure am glad this little traveler is going to be OK. Cannot imagine the horror he must have felt. There's not much soft stuff for claws to latch onto under the hood of a vehicle. Someone is gonna love him to pieces!!!!! Nice cat. Probably will sing (purr) like crazy for someone who loves him. He just looks like a singer. I'd take him in a heartbeat, but we have enough of a circus here!!!! I'm sure glad the man stopped his car and investigated when he did because he absolutely saved this poor cat's life.

Merry Christmas, everyone!!!

Glad to hear the kitty is okay despite such a terrifying ordeal. Let's hope someone reunites him with his family.

That's one lucky cat! If he/she had been by the belt when the car started, it would have been killed! Good to hear it's safe.
