"Solving the Communion Enigma: What Is to Come" (Tarcher/Penguin), by Whitley Strieber: In his new book, "Solving the Communion Enigma: What Is to Come," author Whitley Strieber tries to explain the strange happenings surrounding his life since he wrote "Communion" 25 years ago.

"Communion" chronicled what Strieber claimed was his abduction by alien beings and the events that followed. He wrote two more books about his experiences and received thousands of letters from people who said similar events occurred in their lives. He also became a laughingstock among his friends and lost his financial stability. His wife, Anne, supported him, though it was difficult for her to understand what he was experiencing.

Strieber reveals that brushes with the paranormal haven't lessened over the years. He uses his personal connections and in-depth research to rationalize his experiences.

The UFO culture is hard to grasp, but Strieber tries his best to tie together diverse subjects such as cattle mutilations, crop circles, strange implants and the afterlife. He even questions whether the aliens he claims abducted him were from outer space or another dimension.

What it boils down to is whether the reader believes Strieber. Are his experiences real?

Strieber doesn't resolve the issue conclusively, and the majority of the stories in "Solving the Communion Enigma" have been told on his radio show, "Dreamland." Still, there's enough compelling material to make even the rigid skeptic ask questions.

(cont.) - Suddenly I realized this extreme reaction was connected to my being this close to Wright Patterson Air Force base, even though the airbase is located over a hundred miles to the southwest. This realization helped me to bring this horrible subconscious reaction under control, but still I could hardly wait to get out of Ohio once that military funeral was over. Once I was finally on the flight back home, I was back to my normal self, and I have never experienced anything like this ever again. Although I was exposed to a great deal about the Roswell Incident while living at Wright Patterson Air Force base during those two years, I can only guess what actually happened to me at Wright Patterson Air Force base to cause this kind of extreme apprehension reaction years later. So I can personally imagine just how life changing an ET abduction must be. - Rick Carter

My name is Rick Carter, and I lived at Wright Patterson Air Force base from 1951 to 1953, while my grandfather (Colonel Charles Faulkner Carter) was second in command there. My grandfather was personally involved in the background investigation into the Roswell Incident of 1947. Many years later, when I was serving in the military (US Special Forces, 1971), I volunteered for honor guard duty on behalf of a fallen U.S. Special Forces soldier who had died in the Vietnam War. I had already served on several honor guard details before, so I was reasonably familiar with this duty. But this latest honor guard duty required me to fly to Akron, Ohio, and I had not been back to Ohio since I left Wright Patterson Air Force base in 1953. Please understand that I was airborne qualified, and I routinely jumped from all kinds of aircraft every month of the year. But the closer I got to making this flight to Akron, Ohio, the more I started to become emotionally unraveled inside. By the time I landed in Akron, Ohio, it felt like my hands had started to visibly shake. Even one of my other A-Team members who had also volunteered for this honor guard duty noticed something very unusual was wrong with me, and asked me if I was OK. I had never experienced this kind of extreme apprehension and trepidation before in my entire life. (more to follow)

ETs are involved in animal mutilation because they want to use the underlying cellular scaffolding from these animal organs to grow new organs for themselves (using stem cells). - RC
