FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- A Georgia father is pleading with whoever stole an urn that held his newborn daughter's ashes to return it to the family.

Detectives are investigating the Sunday burglary in Fayette County, south of Atlanta.Police say the home was burglarized Sunday while Brian Allen was at work and his wife and two children were at church.

Electronics, jewelry, and the heart-shaped urn holding the ashes of their daughter Olivia were stolen.

The baby was born a year and a half ago and lived for only a few minutes.

The father is asking whoever stole the urn to "just leave it in the yard" and the family will not ask any questions.

typically vase urns have lids that fit down inside. The ashes are usually in a bag and not loose. You can't tell from the picture. Urns can be made of all kinds of things. We have a wood one that is sealed when we had our beloved family dog cremated. His ashes are in a bag inside the box. I hope the person that took this family's property returns it. This is such a tragedy.

I hope the Urn gets returned WITH the childs ashes still in it, they could have dumped the ashes when they went to pawn it or sell it!

Can't help but wonder if the thief works for a major airline....an elderly lady from Penn was taking her late husband's ashes to England for internment when US Air "lost" his urn from INSIDE her luggage!

That's so sad. Just give them back the urn. They've hurt enough already.

Everybody is talking about the vase, urn...looking so pretty, not like an urn. Would you put your loved one in a piece of crap on the fireplace mantel?
I hope he doesn't leave the ashes in the front yard and keep the urn.

wow the decency of the person who commented on putting there loved one in a piece of crap on the fireplace mantel thats rude i sure hope u dont have kids its a tragedy to lose someone so young ur the piece of crap maybe i should put u on the mantel hahaha

dude you should read more carefully, The person said would you put someone in a peice of crap urn? the person is saying that the urn would be a nice one witch is probly why the theif took it.
11:46 PM on 01/24/2012
that's not how they meant it. They were trying to say that of course the urn was pretty, they wouldn't want it to look like crap would they?

I imagine that the thief had no idea that this urn contained the ashes of their child. He may have liked it enough to keep himself, or thought that he could sell it it for a good price. Regardless of the real scenario, I really hope that he returns the urn to these people !

sure looks like a vase, all urns should have a lid

Maybe it did and they left it open so their daughter could breathe
12:41 PM on 01/24/2012
News Flash! the daughter is dead! and why would the daughter need to breathe?
12:18 AM on 01/25/2012
Why would you make such an asinine comment?? Have a little heart, how about it? If this were your child, would you be making jokes??

That is not a picture of the actual Urn

I'm sure the idiot who burglarized the home didn't know he was stealing an urn. It's probably been pawned. Hopefully, the police are looking in those directions as well. Good luck.

This is so horrible. Why would you even dream of stealing an urn - let alone of filled with the ashes of a child? Do they know if the urn was metal? That is the only reason why I would expect anyone to steal like this. I really hope that recycling companies are keeping an eye out, even though that's the worst thing to want to have to look out for.

I hope he returns, well everything, but if the theif returns only one thing I hope it's the urn. You can't replace that. They have (probably still are) mourned/mourning her loss for a long time. They shouldn't have to go through that again/stronger. RIP little Olivia I hope you return to your family very soon (preferably already and they just haven't updated the article yet).
