Shaun Winkler, White Supremacist, Running For County Sheriff

SANDPOINT, Idaho — A white supremacist in northern Idaho wants to be the next Bonner County sheriff, saying federal overreach motivated him to run for the office.

Shaun Winkler of the White Knights of the KKK will go up against incumbent Sheriff Daryl Wheeler and Ponderay police officer Tim Fry in the Republican primary on May 15. The winner of that contest will face independent candidate Rocky Jordan in November.

The Bonner County Daily Bee reports ( ) Winkler has ties to the Aryan Nations and Church of Jesus Christ-Christian and acknowledges his personal beliefs could cast a pall over his campaign. http://bit.ly/FPTrDP

But the 33-year-old says he's not running to push a white supremacist agenda.

The Aryan Nations is long gone from northern Idaho, but its reputation has lingered to the embarrassment of locals.

Was a time not too long ago, a connection to the white supremacy people would be the kiss of death for political aspiration.

These days, I'm not so sure, and it is troubling.

The KKK was formed by the Democratic Party. Slaves were free'd by Republicans. The Republican party was formed by the WIG party which sought to FREE slaves. The DEMOCRATS were pro slavery and against freeing them. You should really take a history lesson before opening your ignorant mouth. BTW Dr.Martin Luther King was a Republican. So are many other non white supremacists. Because of one moron, or a thousand, you do not cast a vote toward all people. Most Americans are center leaning and cant be defined by Republican or Democrat solely.

Everything you say about the Democrats, the Republicans, the Wigs, and the KKK WAS 100% true. However, during the 20s, the Republicans started moving right. In the early 30s, in response to President Roosevelt, the moved further right. During the 50s and 60s, the opposed almost all civil rights bills. After Nixon launched his "Southern Strategy", they became the home of the former Dixiecrats and became the party of racism.
Before you open YOUR ignorant mouth, check up on history.

MLK said in his autobiography that he always voted Democrat although he almost voted for Eisenhower. Can you provide a citation for your contention that he was a Republican? By the way, the Republicans of Lincoln's day are NOT the Republicans of today and same re the Dems. Ironic.
