Adrian Flowers Laughed During Sentencing For Murder Of Dekota Galtney In Minnesota

When a convicted murderer learned his fate from a judge, he couldn't help but laugh.

According to the Twin Cities' Pioneer Press, Adrian Flowers laughed hysterically as a judge handed down his 8-1/2-year prison term.

And it wasn't the first time. "He comes here, laughing all the time, like nothing happened," said Jeanine Galtney, the mother of Dekota, Flowers' victim.

Flowers, 22, was charged with fatally shooting Galtney, 24, in St. Paul in December 2011 after an argument, according to KARE 11. In April, the Minnesotan submitted an Alford plea to the court, the Pioneer Press reported at the time.

An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt. Rather, it signifies an understanding that the state has enough evidence to likely convict an individual at trial, according to Cornell University Law School.

Flowers' family members denied that their relative acted insensitively during the sentencing. They told reporters that Flowers is deaf in one ear and has hearing loss in the other, which he has dealt with since childhood by means of laughter.

They also said that the convict has attention-deficit disorder.

Surprisingly, the Flowers case is not the first time suspects haven't been able to keep poker faces during their own trials.

Famous acquitted mom Casey Anthony was caught on camera laughing and smiling during the jury selection of her trial for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, Radar Online reported. Jurors heard Joshua Komisarjevsky laughing in a taped confession to jurors as he described tying up two minors in a house and then burning it, according to the Daily Mail.

I'm guessing there is more to the story. 8.5 years for murder hardly seems like enough.

censors fall asleep?

For one, lets not jump to conclusions and base entire comments on assumptions. Repeat offender, does not mean he is legally seen as a repeat offender as defined by the court. This is just the author of the article giving him that status. He could just have a few parking tickets. Also, its obviously leaving out ALL details of the case to further our assumptions and play on our emotions when we see a "repeat offender" only receiving eight and one-half years for a murder. But you do not know the details of the murder and you do not know if he he took a plea deal. He gave his plea which is not admitting guilt but acknowledging the court has enough evidence to convict. This tells me it was likely mutual combat gone wrong, or the victim had a role in the altercation. They probably came to him and said plead this, and we'll give you X. Like one person already commented, some people with brain issues laugh at things that most would not, and this article is just playing on this, and sensationalizing it for emotional comments and response. What I think is a big joke, is that no one seems to care or even notice the lack of details, yet the detailed responses that followed makes one assume the article was quite straightforward, when it was not.

Your post is one of the more logical ones here. But of course, both the writer of this and the some of the posters here threw that out the window and ran on emotion only. This offender's affect may be abnormal and likely caused by some type of brain issue whether organic, or functional.

The sentence does not fir the crime. I was looking to see if he had a mental evaluation. Mental illness is real. I wish the best for that little girls family and hope that in the future a sentencing should reflect the crime.

No wonder he's laughing, 8 1/2 years for murder?! So much for those who claim that black offenders get harsher sentences. Just when you think that you've seen everything. I wonder if the white community will riot?

Now a days the judicial system is a big joke. The sentences some times are exagerated others, like in this ,are ridiculous. But anyway everything is upside down in this country. I am not sure if the constitution is still valid and we as the people are completely ignored. We are living in chaotic times and we are doing like the ostrich, hide the head when they are threatened. Some not even see the danger we are in. God Bless America.

Repeat offender? 8-1/2-year prison term for murder?

I'd be laughing, too.

I knew of an autistic teen who also would laugh out loud while watching the news when murders and other crimes were committed. I found it very strange that he would laugh when other family members got into trouble of some sort. It's odd how some with Attention Deficit disorder will find it amusing as well when they are angered by something they will laugh after they see someone received a consequence. It's a strange reaction with those who have minimal brain dysfunctions. I'm not sure if this person knew the severity of his own crime, they usually feel intense guilt after reality hits them and it's excruciating. While they act differently in front of others during a trial, punishment or judgement they normally will suffer on an emotional level much more then anyone else ever realizes. It's a sad thing in society. Since so many people in this country are unable to receive medical or mental healthcare there are more mentally ill people on the streets then in hospitals receiving the help they need.
