Neil Heslin, Father Of Newtown Victim, Heckled By Pro-Gun Activists (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Neil Heslin, the father of a 6-year-old boy who was slain in the Sandy Hook massacre in Newtown, Conn., on Dec. 14, stoically faced down pro-gun activists last night.

More than 1,000 people attended a hearing before the Gun Violence Prevention Working Group at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford on Monday to share their views on gun control, USA Today reported. Among them was Heslin, who held a large framed picture of himself and his son Jesse as he urged officials to consider strengthening gun laws in Connecticut.

But as he gave his emotional testimony, pleading with lawmakers to improve mental health options and to ban assault weapons like the one Adam Lanza used to murder his child and 25 other people, his speech was interrupted by dozens of audience members, The Connecticut Post reported.

"I still can't see why any civilian, anybody in this room in fact, needs weapons of that sort. You're not going to use them for hunting, even for home protection," Heslin said.

Pro-gun activists responded by calling out: "Second Amendment!"

Undeterred, Heslin continued. "There are a lot of things that should be changed to prevent what happened."

Heslin's son, Jesse McCord Lewis, was described by friends as a happy child, The Post reported. A "little cowboy," Jesse reportedly liked to play with the fake horses at a local Western-themed restaurant. After he was shot and killed by Lanza, a line of police officers on horseback joined the motorcade at the boy's funeral.

"He was a boy that loved life. Lived it to the fullest...He was my son, he was my buddy, he was my best friend." Heslin said.

Our gun death rate is far higher than Canada's. Why?

There are fewer people there.

Interesting, the gun lovers who responded to the article got little support from the other responders. When the the NRA leadership fought a ban on teflon plated bullets, which could pierce police body armor, many law enforcement officers were outraged. Young black males are the most frequent victims of gun violence, which is well known to the NRA leadership. Draw your own conclusions.

The report that the gentleman was heckled is completely false! The man asked a question of all those in attendance. No one answered him at first. He then turned around and looked into the crowd and AGAIN asked the same question. Members of the crowed then answered the mans question. He was NOT heckled. I was 15 feet from his location. I saw this first hand and also have video of his complete testimony. This is an attempt to garner support by promoting mistruth.

If the law takes guns away from the responsible owners, only criminal will own guns. I feel that stronger laws need to be put in place, to punish anyone that abuses their right to own guns. There have been years if my family did not own guns to hunt (legally) wild game we would not have had meat on the table. I am not loosing site of the lost lives. My prayers are for your peace of mind and heart.

Good for him! He lost a son to someone with a mental illness who had easy access to a weapon to use to live out his delusions. In our early history we needed weapons for defense and food. In this day and age we DO NOT. And why does anyone need to go out to shoot animals for sport, do target practice and run the risk of having it stolen by someone or, even worse, found by a child? The only people in this day and age who need weapons are the military and police. And, God willing, someday maybe they won't need them either. Yes, I know there will be a lot of disagreement with what I just said and that's okay. We're all entitled to an opinion.

This is sad to share another's story of loss. I do not know the answer to stop evil. I do know that in Chicago where gun laws are some of the most stringent 446 school age kids were killed in 2012. I also know that family is the best deterrent to kids on the streets, and discipline in the home with responsible raising cuts all crime down. Kids need love and high expectations from those who love them. There used to be an ad asking, "How much time did you spend with your kids today?"

Gang bangers/biker groups and mafia types.Along with mentaly ill will always be able to get guns as long as they have the money..And the man should not have been heckeld. He is going through a very hard time..That was not the decent thing to do..Doing things like that always makes legal and decent gun owners look bad..You can express yourself without being vicious or rude..

The pro gun lobby are a bunch of inhuman blood thirsty monsters who are indifferent to the cold blooded murder of children all they care about is the right to have assault weapons! Not one kind word for a man or families who lost children to murder it says a lot about them If I was the president I would use the army to dis arm those who have assault weapons not rifles for hunting or hand guns for protection but not machine guns to fight wars!

This is with out a doubt another very sad thing that as taken place in our country. But even if we could take all the guns away there is still the element In this country that would be able to get them. Just go to the south and west sides of Chicago or Fowler street in Ft Myers or just about any city in this country and get a hand gun. Gang Bangers (The Bad Guys) Will always be able to get them fore the right price.

Exactly. Only those that want to do right follow any law. Thus the laws are not for the criminals but for the people that do not NEED the laws. A man from Burout (do not know how to spell it) told me he could get any weapon he wanted within hours. A teen once told me he could get a gun within half an hour.
