BERLIN, N.J. -- A southern New Jersey man is charged with murder after authorities say he used a bow and arrow to kill another after a fistfight.

Twenty-five-year-old Timothy Canfield of Berlin was charged Tuesday.

Authorities say Canfield was at his home when another resident got into a fistfight Monday night with 25-year-old Kereti Paulsen of Cape May Court House.

After the fight broke up, authorities say Paulsen was outside the home and Canfield followed him with a compound bow and a quiver of arrows.

They say Paulsen was shot in the stomach and died after the arrow tore through a vein in his pelvis.

Authorities say Canfield admitted to dumping the bow and arrows in a wooded area in nearby Winslow. He is being held at the Camden County Jail.

Has anyone else noticed that in every article about firearm crime, the criminal is called an armed GUNman, but in this article he is simply called a 'man'? Why not BOWman, or ARROWman, or ARMED quiver man? Why aren't these journalists demonizing the bow and arrow as much as the firearm? I know, they must understand the intricacies of pull weight and arrow construction better than they understand the differences between terms like clip, magazine, semi-auto and select fire. Ok, I get it now.

Oddly enough, this is the second killing with a bow and arrow in as many months. The other one I speak of was a man in his 20's who shot his father dead with a bow, his father's girlfriend with a knife then turned the knife on himself, killing a total of three people without one solitary gunshot. It is nice however that those who were involved in Sandy Hook are seeing little by little how this whole gun control issue has little to do with the children, other than how the Taliban use them, as shields. Some of the fathers had the courage to speak up about gun laws having little affect on these types of violence.
You may find this to be very sad but the options they used to "qualify" as an assault weapon had absolutely nothing at all as to function. some examples would be an adjustable stock, plastic hand guards, and a flash hider. Really?? Adjustable stock speaks for itself, a comfort item that has no affect on the firing of it or accuracy. The hand guards also were a comfort item. The flash hider is really the best. When Feinstein put that in, she thought it made it hard to see when fired. All it did was change the direction of the gasses and make it a bit "meaner looking". I kid you not! That is why it is hard to take her seriously when she speaks.

This is awful. We must outlaw Bows and Arrows, and require background checks before purchasing arrows longer than 10 inches. That'll put an end to this senseless killing.

Time to outlaw bows and arrows, we must make America 100% safe, we need a 10 day waiting period, a restriction that you must not have more than 10 arrows in your quiver at any one time, a button safety on the bow, no thumb hole bows, as this is a Assult bow feature, and a background check, oh and of course, a mandatory bow lock to be sold with every bow.

Wow, an Assault Bow!! Bet it had levers and gears and carbon fiber and nylon, plus the arrows had plastic fletching and steel broadheads........none of which are what the Indians intended when they invented the Bow & Arrow here in the US. Need to ban these Assault Bows & Arrows and require a background check before we buy them.........these type of weapons aren't needed by a real hunter.......they only need an Ash stick, some buffalo sinew, some straight reeds, turkey feathers, and a nicely knapped flint point. When is our Congress going to act on this ridiculous weapon....................
