A Wrightsville, Ga. dollar-store clerk allegedly spanked a misbehaving boy with her belt -- and he wasn't even her child.
Emilia Graciela Bell, 39, was charged with simple battery on Thursday for whipping 8-year-old Logan Ivey on the back as many as 25 times because he threw a cookie at her, according to CBS affiliate WMAZ-TV.
Wrightsville Police Chief Paul Sterling responded to the scene when Ivey's father, who was not at the store, called to say his son had been spanked by a worker. Ivey's mother and sister were there but did not witness the attack.
Sterling said the surveillance video, which was not released, captured everything -- so much so that Sterling plans to upgrade Bell's charges to aggravated assault.
The 8-year-old told WMAZ that he was running around the store when Bell tried to stop him and began calling him a demon. Ivey responded with, "I'll show you bad," before throwing a cookie at her. Bell chased him behind a counter and allegedly began striking him with her belt on his back.
"It felt like five needles were sticking in me," Ivey told WMAZ. "I was screaming, 'Momma.'"
"I wish everyone could see the video," said Jody Ivey, Logan's dad. "It shows how many times she really hit him and how bad it was."
Bell was thrown in jail and released on bond Friday morning.
Whether it's a Flash Mob or an out-of-control Brat, let them be.
The belt can make a difference too, whether it was a fabric of some kind, soft, and maybe it took 25 hits, trying to get the kid to even feel it, as I'm pretty sure it wasn't of the leather strap variety. The boy sounds somewhat coached to say it hurt.
The situation is really a mixed bag, where was the mother? Sounds like the boy had really given this clerk a difficult time. She was there to do a job, not to babysit a misbehaving child while Mom shopped. I'm interested to see how this one turns out.
