Emilia Graciela Bell, Store Clerk, Allegedly Spanked 'Demon' Boy, Logan Ivey, Who Wasn't Her Son

A Wrightsville, Ga. dollar-store clerk allegedly spanked a misbehaving boy with her belt -- and he wasn't even her child.

Emilia Graciela Bell, 39, was charged with simple battery on Thursday for whipping 8-year-old Logan Ivey on the back as many as 25 times because he threw a cookie at her, according to CBS affiliate WMAZ-TV.

Wrightsville Police Chief Paul Sterling responded to the scene when Ivey's father, who was not at the store, called to say his son had been spanked by a worker. Ivey's mother and sister were there but did not witness the attack.

Sterling said the surveillance video, which was not released, captured everything -- so much so that Sterling plans to upgrade Bell's charges to aggravated assault.

The 8-year-old told WMAZ that he was running around the store when Bell tried to stop him and began calling him a demon. Ivey responded with, "I'll show you bad," before throwing a cookie at her. Bell chased him behind a counter and allegedly began striking him with her belt on his back.

"It felt like five needles were sticking in me," Ivey told WMAZ. "I was screaming, 'Momma.'"

"I wish everyone could see the video," said Jody Ivey, Logan's dad. "It shows how many times she really hit him and how bad it was."

Bell was thrown in jail and released on bond Friday morning.

Guess she gave him what the parents should have. The mother was in the store and didn't see her child misbehaving or the spanking?I bet she was glad someone stood up to the kid and gave what he needed so she ignored it maybe if she would discipline her own child he wouldn't act that Way to begin with. Now the kid will think his actions are ok .Maybe we should charge the mother with neglect she let her child run around the store and didn't see any of this?It must have taken a long time for this to happen and she didn't come looking for her son or wonder where he was or what he was doing?More like she didn't care what he was doing.

i've seen similar kids in stores running around and wanted to do the same thing. I blame it on the parents.

That's right - just sit back and take it, America.

Whether it's a Flash Mob or an out-of-control Brat, let them be.

Future felon in the making. Give him another 5 years and you'll be reading all about him.

She should get a commendation, and her absentee parents should get locked up.

That kid probably had been in need of a good old fashioned butt whoopin for a LONG time. His parents should have stopped this behavior themselves, before another person had to get involved. Surely an 8 yo kid isn't in a store alone. Why was he being allowed to run all over the place with no supervision? Mom holds some responsibilty, too!

All in all, I'd say that while the boy most certainly deserved punishment, in this case he has been rewarded by all the attention and he is having the time of is life. Expect to see much more from this child - perhaps not at this level, but for the poor souls around him, expect to see much more.

Wow! Where I live it's illegal for a parent to beat their own child with a belt like this article is stating.
The belt can make a difference too, whether it was a fabric of some kind, soft, and maybe it took 25 hits, trying to get the kid to even feel it, as I'm pretty sure it wasn't of the leather strap variety. The boy sounds somewhat coached to say it hurt.
The situation is really a mixed bag, where was the mother? Sounds like the boy had really given this clerk a difficult time. She was there to do a job, not to babysit a misbehaving child while Mom shopped. I'm interested to see how this one turns out.

I blame the parents not being able to control the child. Where was the Mother???

Guess he showed her how bad he could be. The clerk just did what the parents have neglected to do all his life.

Where were his parents? An 8 year old running around the store & throwing things at the employees needs to be disciplined & if the parents don't do it, then let the police deal with him...cause that's where he's headed anyway. Wake up parents & thank the employee that gave your son what he deserved because she may have saved him from a trip to jail in a few years.

The boys mother should have him with her instead of letting him run wild all over the store. He needed his butt spanked but not by a stranger.I know how the clerk felt but she should not take it on herself to spank the boy.

This story is unintentionally funny.
