First Posted: 02/25/13 EST Updated: 02/25/13 EST

It was a first for 'Inside the Actors Studio' host James Lipton and AOL.com: The venerable TV host and acting teacher anchored AOL's Oscars live blog coverage, all while hosting an Oscars viewing party in the TV studio at AOL's corporate headquarters in New York City.

The evening got under way with Kedakai Lipton, James' wife, live blogging the actors and actresses arriving on the red carpet at the Dolby Theater. Then, James Lipton took over with his signature expert insight and he brought along a few high-profile guests, including Ken Taylor, the Canadian Ambassador to Iran. James Lipton also answered users questions submitted through Twitter. In case you missed and of the action, here are some of the evening's most intriguing highlights.

James Lipton welcomes his first guest, Kedakai Lipton, his wife, who live blogged the red carpet action for AOL.com.

James Lipton recounts a story about how renowned director Quentin Tarantino once strangled the 'Inside the Actors Studio' host when he ran into Tarantino at the Cannes Film Festival.

James Lipton interviewed Ken and Pat Taylor about what it was like for their lives to be the subject of a critically acclaimed movie. Just hours later, 'Argo' won three Oscars, including the coveted Best Picture award. Real-life hero Ken Taylor, who was played by Victor Garber in the Hollywood version of his life, described the film was 'timely and pertinent.'

James Lipton interviews legendary author and journalist Gay Talese, and his wife, publishing titan Nan Talese.

Lipton administers his Pivot Questionnaire, a staple of every Inside the Actors Studio episode, in a way you've never seen before.

James spends a few moments candidly conversing with New York Rangers great hockey Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert.

Finally, James signed off with a heartfelt reflection on the cultural relevance and tradition that the Oscars are, followed by a poignant goodnight to the audience.

Difficult to take Hollywood seriously. I hate that they bring politics into the Oscars. We needed to see M. Obama. I rather hear she is encouraging her husband to work on the more important financial disasters this country is going thru. the first family appears to be the party family.

DID NOT LIKE THIS AT ALL. Didn't like it all popping up on my screen. Hope you don't do this at any other events in the future.
