Alex Rabinowitz, Center Well Editor: 'The World's End'
The end of summer/early fall typically isn't the most exciting time at the movies. The blockbusters are on their way out and the Oscar hopefuls aren't yet on their way in. But if you missed Edgar Wright's 'The World's End' last weekend, do yourself a favor and catch this one before it's gone. The sci-fi comedy was one of the most fun times I had at the movies this year, and packs as much thought as it does humor and action. Simon Pegg gives the performance of his career while providing a script (which he penned with Wright) that harkens back to a time when science fiction used to mean something. Having previously made cult favorites 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz', this creative team knows their way around genre mashups with an underlying message, and 'World's End' is no exception. Their use of science fiction and comedy only reinforces the deep themes of friendship, nostalgia and growing up. I can't wait to see what they do next.
Megan Barreto, Programming Director: 'This Is Us'
I'm taking my 10-year-old daughter to see 'One Direction: This Is Us' along with a group of other 'Directioners' - I may be asked to sit far away from them in the theatre.
Steve Zorio, Programming Director: 'The World's End
I'm going to see 'The World's End' on Saturday. I really enjoyed 'Shaun of the Dead' and I thought 'Hot Fuzz' was a decent effort, so I am hopeful that World's End' nicely rounds out this very loosely linked trilogy.
Brynn Mannino, Lifestyle Editor: 'Therese'
Going to go see 'Therese,' a French film about Therese Desqueryroux, a woman who tried to poison her husband, to make myself feel better about both never finishing French class and taking the highroad during my last breakup.
